Most people, if they were considering plastic surgery, would probably consult a professional plastic surgeon.
However, before they go to a surgeon it appears that more and more people are asking for advice on social networking sites, with Facebook leading the pack.

It used to be that you’d go to friends or a family doctor, but with the huge proliferation of information on the Internet it’s apparently just easier to get online and ask the questions you want to ask about your cosmetic procedures.
“We are encouraged by the possibilities that Facebook, Twitter and other social channels offer for prospective patients, but urge all patients to exercise caution in researching facial plastic procedures to ensure information is from a reliable source,” academy president Dr. Tom Wang was quoted as saying.
And he’s right, in large part.
You can find almost anything online these days, but you can find just as much information that isn’t true as you can information that is.
And while Facebook is great for keeping tabs on your friends’ social lives, it may not always be the most accurate location for finding out about plastic surgery procedures.
“There’s a great deal of misinformation out there, and the best way to circumvent it is to AAFPRS physician who is qualified, experienced and trained in performing facial plastic procedures.”
This same survey that pointed out more and more people are getting plastic surgery information from social networking showed the most common facial plastic surgery procedures, with rhinoplasty and eyelid surgery nearing the top of the list, and with Botox topping out (even if you don’t really consider it to be surgery since it’s very uninvasive).
But the point has been made; it’s not just important that you have information before your procedure, it’s important you have the right information.
