For those not familiar with singer and songwriter Nicki Minaj (which is hard to do given her recent appearances at major events in entertainment), she’s one of the latest crop of up and comers who appear to be reaching the plateau of the entertainment business.
However, despite appearing as part of the 2012 Superbowl halftime show alongside singing legend Madonna, and putting in a stellar appearance at this year’s Grammy Awards, there are still rumors that Minaj’s looks came with no little help from a surgeon’s scalpel.
“Good overall plastic surgery at the Grammys,” Dr. Terry Dubrow, a Newport Beach plastic surgeon who commented on the event with the Orange County Register. “Most are opting for more natural looking procedures and the results reflect this tendency.”
While he was speaking in general about performers and attendees, Dubrow’s comments could just as easily be applied to the controversy, small that it is, surrounding Minaj’s changing looks. On the one hand she is a performer and has access to a ridiculous amount of prosthetic skill and a cosmetics budget on par with other stars like Lady Gaga. On the other hand there is a tacit acceptance that the beautiful and the successful, especially those that are women, in Hollywood have gotten at least a nip here and a tuck there.
Even with that assumption though, Nicki Minaj has consistently remained ‘mum’ on the rumors. On the one hand a certain amount of rumor mongering is just to be expected when you’ve become as famous as she has at this point. On the other hand though, not deigning to weigh in on it does keep her above the issue, and it adds a certain class to a star or starlet who through her silence points out that all of the gossip is rather groundless.
