Has Richard Gere Had Cosmetic Surgery?
Richard Gere, born in Philadelphia, August 31, 1949, is one of those rare commodities: a famous Hollywood actor seemingly growing old gracefully and without too much evidence of having been under the surgeon’s knife.
As everyone knows, Richard Gere was 70s heart-throb and sex symbol (see also Mickey Rourke before & after surgery) starring in a number of high-profile pictures including An Officer and a Gentleman (with Debra Winger and David Keith), Pretty Woman (see Julia Roberts cosmetic surgery), Primal Fear (with Edward Norton and Laura Linney) and Chicago (with Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones).
Such was his popularity, he was name the Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine back in 1999. In Chicago, he won a Golden Globe for Best Actor.
He remains, however, one of the few famous Hollywood actors who has never been nominated for an Academy Award.
Gere has been married twice: first to Cindy Crawford from 1991 to 1995 and then in 2002, to Carey Lowell, with whom he has a son – Homer James Jigme Gere – name after his father.
Richard Gere is a practicing Buddhist.
Richard Gere Before & After…
Unlike some other more contemporary stars and icons (see Kim K & her rumored plastic surgery for example), there doesn’t appear to be any evidence of Richard Gere having been on the cosmetic surgeon’s operating table.
Indeed, far from it and it seems he owes his enduring looks to good genes rather than any surgical procedure.
That hasn’t prevented Gere from the odd joke when asked the inevitable question.
When in 2006, the UK’s “Daily Mail” newspaper ran a contradictory article suggesting celebrity plastic surgery he was asked for the secret of maintaining his good looks:
“A lot of plastic surgery. Constantly. Once a month.”
Not a lot of people took him seriously, of course, until he then attempted to clarify the point:
“No, I am being serious. I have an extraordinary doctor in New York. I’ll give you his name”, he said giggling profusely afterwards.
According to eminent plastic surgeon, Dr Anthony Youn, however, Gere was most certainly joking in turn suggesting that it was his commitment to Zen and Buddhism that is helping to maintain his youthful zest and appearance.
For now, therefore, on the subject of Richard Gere’s plastic surgery, there is not a lot more to talk about.
